Volvo Ocean Race Outdoor Pavilion

Volvo Ocean Race

Volvo Ocean Race is one of the largest and most grueling sailing races in the world, and Volvo Trucks needed a functional outdoor pavilion to complete its only North American port. Holt Experiential, a leader in outdoor exhibit planning in NC, SC and VA, traveled to Newport, Rhode Island to scout the location and to create an outdoor space design that would marry comfort, branding, and technological know-how in one seamless package.

Taking full advantage of the ample outdoor space, Holt curated an open-air seating area that displayed Volvo Trucks’ newest innovations and products via custom touch screens. The outdoor exhibit was constructed with Modulbox, a pull-and-place outdoor structure that is easy to deploy and offers a clean, modern design.

The open structural display mirrored that of the nautical themed event, ensuring that each and every visitor left the pavilion with a memorable and informative experience during the race’s 22-day activation.

Interactive Kiosk

Previously, Volvo commissioned Holt to create a high-definition version of their existing iPad app to run on touch screens at 32” and larger for use at trade shows and events, and for lobby usage at other times.

Holt created a scalable touch screen application to highlight the VN Series of the Volvo Truck line. This app provided an interactive way for visitors to engage with the VN Series through photos, videos, and vertically scrolling product information screens.

Volvo used this app on two kiosks at Volvo Ocean Race Outdoor Pavilion for 22 consecutive days without issue.

To house the interactives, Holt’s fabrication shop created two 3’ wide, 4’ 7” tall kiosks featuring 32” touch screens, surge protected power supplies, Intel i7 PCs with 16Gb of RAM, and ventilation fans. Rear access panels provided easy access for maintenance, and a remote desktop application allowed for off-site maintenance via Windows 10 for upgrades.

After the event, Volvo had Holt expand the app’s interactive content to also include Volvo’s VNX Series, to the previous VNL and VNR truck lines.
